As of 7/2/11:
Miles today - 12.7
Miles to date - 240.4
It was another good day for Dave, with substantial but not excessive mileage. The trail is running close to a road, and yesterday and today he and a few hiking buds decided to stop at near-by restaurants for meals. Both times Dave was seduced by the prospect of freshly made meals, and yet when he was on the trail an hour later he was regretting having eaten so much as he felt stuffed and overheated. Today he said, Never again. I don't know, I think the lure of a restaurant meal can be irresistible.
The group he's hiking with right now includes Buckeye from OH, Pilgrim from MA, Cloud Walker, Bald Eagle (yes, he's bald) from PA, and Wakarusa, which supposedly means Stuck in Mud in Potawatomi, from IN.
Some of them, including Dave, stopped at the 10 Mile River Shelter for the evening. Dave was able to call the Post Office in Kent, CT, to ask them to mail his boxes to the next town, which they said they would do. Pyro suggested he do that if necessary. Who knew? Now he doesn't have to take a Zero Day again so soon.
He likes the location of the shelter, as it is next to a river (Ten Mile River) AND it has a pump for fresh water. What a luxury.
